The puzzle library has 9,917 positions, chosen from the six million puzzles in the Lichess puzzle database (public domain). They are sorted into books by what they train, and each book into chapters by theme and difficulty.
The books
- Opening puzzles, 2,976: tactics that come straight out of named openings, grouped by opening family.
- Tactics, 2,488: forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks, deflection, attraction, interference, x-rays and the other ways material is won.
- Checkmate, 1,979: mate in one, two, three or more, and the patterns behind them.
- Endgames, 1,974: positions with few pieces and the technique they need.
- Defensive puzzles, 500: positions where the only good move is a defensive one.
A mixed session draws from every book without repeats, for when you do not want to choose.
Difficulty
Puzzles are rated like players. Each chapter is split into bands, and the best place to start is where about half the puzzles feel hard.
Your progress
Solved puzzles, streaks and the ones you missed are kept in your browser, with no account. A book's missed puzzles can be replayed on their own until they stick.
